The never-ending quest for the perfect instrument case. Some instruments come from the manufacturer in really great cases — well constructed, hold the instrument(s) safely, compact, attractive. Other instruments come in complete trash. The instruments rattle around, and they are clunky, inconvenient and unattractive. We are looking for something that holds the instrument securely, has room for the additional items we need to play, reflects our sense of style, and also reflects our practical needs. For doublers it might be what the most efficient combo is. For a public transit commuter it might be something that tucks comfortably inside something else inconspicuous like a backpack, shoulder sling or tote bag. For an air traveler, it might be what goes under the seat or in the overhead bin. In other words, the perfect case is as much a reflection of the player as the instrument itself.
